Meet Paul Barrie
Founder, Collaborator, Facilitator, Coach
Founder of PB Leadership & Coaching, Paul is a deeply experienced people-leader, facilitator & coach. He has worked with organisations throughout Australia and across the globe, to develop the individual and organisational capabilities required to successfully implement positive change and create strategic alignment. His expertise in facilitating group development and decision-making experiences, and his unique insight into leading complex operational activities, combine to generate authentic connections and highly immersive and innovative development experiences.
Paul started his career as a Maritime Warfare Officer in the Royal Australian Navy. During his 15 years of service, Paul deployed on operations in East Timor, Iraq and across Australia's Northern approaches, leading sailors in some of the most complex operating environments imaginable. It was during those deployments, that he began to observe the different ways people responded to complexity and adversity. Paul quickly developed a passion for understanding why some people thrived, while others were really just trying to survive.
Paul was also privileged to spend two years serving the youth of Australia, facilitating arguably one of the nation's most successful experiential youth development programs in STS Young Endeavour. It was this particular role that inspired Paul to pursue a career in facilitating what he now calls 'human potential'.
Since his time in the Navy, Paul has worked both in house and as a consultant to partner with a fascinating range of people and organisations to deliver strategic outcomes:
-
Designing and facilitating immersive leadership development and resilience building programs with clients spanning Commonwealth, State & Local Government, multi-national Engineering, Construction and Facilities Management organisations, and the Australian Telecommunications, Health and Aged Care sectors,
-
Working alongside a range of clients to build their in-house facilitation capacity both in the face-to-face and virtual environments,
-
Facilitating multinational discussions to explore key strategic policy, coordination and capability issues to achieve combined global security operations, and
-
Coaching senior executives and people leaders to help them get clear on their leadership strengths & values, develop highly authentic leadership relationships and achieve their most important leadership outcomes.
Paul’s personal philosophy is centred on understanding the unique needs of his clients. His capacity for vulnerability creates an environment that is conducive to deepening self-insight. He respectfully challenges people's thinking in order to bring heightened awareness and encourage a commitment to action.
Over the course of the last ten years, Paul has built an enviable network of professional coaching and consulting contacts and partners who work to similar philosophies and upon whom he is able to call, in order to generate scalable and flexible solutions.
Service Orientation
Paul is a dedicated community volunteer. He is committed to helping find the cure for cancer, and has volunteered with Tour de Cure in a range of capacities since 2014, personally raising over $60,000 towards funding greater research, treatment and prevention programs. He is currently serving in the inaugural People & Culture Committee, providing strategic organisational development advice to the Board, and ensuring that staff and volunteers are well supported in their employment and interactions with Tour de Cure.
Paul is also a volunteer with Marine Rescue NSW, leveraging his experience and expertise as a professional mariner to ensure the safety of people using the beautiful NSW Central Coast Waterways for recreation.
He is passionate about bringing this service orientation to his work by partnering with community-based organisations to help them create greater positive change in the community
